From the recording Insanity & Hope
Beach Talk time spent in Matala, Crete. In the footsteps of Joni Mitchell. Sun drenched beauty, music and friendship found in such a calm and idyllic setting. I wrote this in response to Joni's song Carey from the Album Blue, which she wrote whilst living in a cave in Matala in the late 1960s.
Lyrics
Beach Talk
It was our last night of Summer
We sat in the bay, saw the flickering lights in the caves
There was a warm south wind breeze
Under that Matala moon we listened to the lapping of the waves
Chorus
We drank wine from our favourite place
We sang and we danced ‘til the break of day
Those lo…..ng Summer nights
Those lo…..ng Summer nights and The Mermaid Ca…fé The Mermaid Ca…fé
We sang songs round a fire
That last Summer’s night and promised to one day return
To where the African wind blows in with red sand
And stops you sleeping while the night drifts away
Chorus
Bridge (SPOKEN)
I will always remember how we laughed, with thoughts of nothing more
than the gifts that tomorrow would bring. Precious moments, precious
memories
Time to pack up our home
In that Matala cave, We took the music and the friendships that we’d made
That time was so sweet
We washed the beach talk from our feet
And gave thanks for this last serenade
