From the recording Moments
To Sing Again: This song is my take on news interviews with people caught up in the war in Ukraine, particularly a young woman who had just come out of hiding in a basement for more than 30 days & one of the things she most wanted, was to be able to sing again, and a woman who gave a Russian soldier sunflower seeds to put in his pocket, so where he died the flowers would remain.
Lyrics
I used to hear the sound of children playing
The sound of birdsong music to my ears
I used to hear the bells of churches ringing
The sound of shells and mortars fills my ears
Lay down your arms and come together
Heal the troubles all around
Lay down your arms fighting will never
Heal the sorrow in which I’m bound
CHORUS
And I really really really want to sing again
The beauty of our song to fill the air
And I really really really want to live again
This world without love too much to bear
This world without love too much to bear
Our daughters and their children flee their homes now
The men, the youth, our future fighting too
Our daughters separated from their loved ones
Will come again and make our country new
I heard her tell the soldier why she gave him
Seeds from the Sunflower of Ukraine
I heard her say please put them in your pocket
So where you die, the flowers will remain
CHORUS
Bridge
Desolation and destruction,
the beauty has all gone
but we will rise, we will rise we will rise just like the sun
CHORUS
